Sticking Piano Keys: Causes and Fixes
A troubleshooting walkthrough before you call a technician.
Check for objects first. Coins, pencils and hair clips fall between keys more often than any other cause.
If the key is slow to return, swollen key bushings from humidity are the usual culprit; these are eased with a bushing pliers, not with lubricant.
A key that plays but does not repeat may have a broken jack spring or a sluggish hammer flange centre pin.
Never spray household lubricants into a piano action. They contaminate felt and turn a small repair into an expensive one.
